Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders playthrough and hints

Wow, you really are a professional game tester. I mean, if I were actively trying to find holes in the code I might do that but just as a regular player I doubt I would… admittedly it’s a lot easier today than 20 years ago thanks to proper multitasking!

And I thought I was bordering on the obsessive trying almost every object with the floorboard. (This could potentially be a spoiler even if you finished the game.) E.g., surprisingly the flagpole won’t open it. (This is only a spoiler if you haven’t finished Stonehenge.)

I second this.

The FM Towns version seems to be a little bit buggy. It would be interesting to see/know if the other versions have these bugs too…

Oh, I might have a savegame that makes it easy to test. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tell me more.

Tell you what, I’ll start a one hour livestream in which nothing happens. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: and we’re live!

Hehe, I think my curiosity would make me well-suited to the job!

After I discovered this,, the Al the Alien glitch (that’s the name I’ve given him), I had many more ideas to try. For instance, what happens if:

- Al the Alien appears in Zak’s room with Zak and Annie, and both of them are holding an artefact?

- An undisguised Zak stands in the corridor while Al is escorting Annie to the cell?

- Zak loses his mind (and all his verbs) in an unlocked cell?

As for the results, well… I’ll leave that to you to discover

Actually I tried those already, haha.

Edit: Well, not in Zak’s room specifically but I don’t think that’s the key aspect there.

Grmbl, stupid @#@# meager minuscule 99 save slot limit.

@tasse-tee Looks like it simply cancels out the message. If you go to the end around 1:30 you can see what I tried.

If you don’t have that (and some other objects), the plane won’t be there…to avoid a dead end.

Oh, I figured it’d just be the blue crystal and that without the item mentioned you’d only float for five to ten minutes instead of “forever” (as far as gameplay purposes go).

You can’t get one without the other…
Except if …
Something to test tonight!

I’m reasonably sure I pulled it first, making the lighter fall out before I picked it up (because always pick up everything; Adventure Games 101).

@ZakPhoenixMcKracken Huh, so the FM-TOWNS version has credits. :stuck_out_tongue:

(+Nushi)

I see! So the glitch is limited to the FM Towns version, it seems.
Another thing that’s interesting: after Zak’s demise, I checked on the others, and found that neither Melissa nor Leslie had lost any oxygen. Their helmets were both at forty-something minutes!

Also, the kazoo sound is much better in that version. Were they even trying in FM Towns? :smirk:

Oh, they added the same intro credits at the end! Cool!

:speech_balloon: #3: “Now what shall we do with him?” Give me any one of the King’s suggestions for the captive Zak. (not including the Mindbender)

Speaking of which… I’m starting to think that it’s just my version that is prone to glitching.
New video coming up, stay tuned…
