Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders playthrough and hints

Weird, that’s exactly what I am doing right now

Sorry… wrong thread

The EGA version hasn’t that problem(s), so I would assume that it is a problem in the FM Towns version. (And the developers of the FM Towns version cut several lines in the intro…)

/edit: btw: I really miss the “look at” and “talk to” verbs…

I never noticed that. I only know that they switched the intro and the scene with Zak´s boss.

Oh, and no worries. It is all non-blocking and optional. But your decisions do have an effect on the game at some stage. You will be punished for your cruelty (just not very hard)…

Not there is for example the first line where Zak lies alone in his bed (again). And in the EGA intro sequence Zak creates a headline that I haven’t seen in the FM Towns version.

Not “punished”.

I found a fire pit in the cave in Seattle. Now I need something to light it.

I’ve already looked somewhere for such an item: Lou’s Loans. Bought a toolbox and opened it, but these items won’t help me right now.

The object you need isn’t anything far fetched. No worries, you can read the spoilers, I’m just blurring for others that might not even be at this puzzle what kind of items would you use in real life to light a fire with?

The difficult part is where to find this object. As a hint to that: I am 100% you (Zak) have been right on top of it.
If that doesn’t ring a bell, I can tell you in which general area you should look.

Yes please. I guess I need a lighter, or a matchbox, or something like that. I put a tree branch on the pit already.

Ok, that’s correct!
And here’s the hint you’ve requested, mylady: you can find it on the plane. There is a hint in the newspaper on page 5

You’re still far from your goal… :grinning: but I can understand. I got stucked there for YEARS.
Anyway there’s a lot you can do in other places while you figure out how to do that

Yes, and inevitably you’ll restart and replay the first parts in a more efficient way. But for now, have fun exploring, @tasse-tee!

As a general hint: each and every article or ad in the newspaper contains at least 1 hint. Except for 1 article, but I ain’t telling which one (or perhaps I even don’t know the game as well as I thought)

Question about Gog: will it ask me which version I want when I complete at checkout? Or do I just toggle from within the game?

Yes, that’s one of two important advices one can give:

  • Read the newspaper (again)
  • Write everything down what you see and that might be important. Instead of modern adventure games you have to remember these things.

This. You can chose between EGA and FM Towns right after the start of the game.
btw: You get the menu with F5 while ESC aborts cut scenes.

Both are included when you buy (you meant that checkout, right?)

Same goes for “dialogs”, because you can’t talk to someone again. If you don’t remember, save just before (on your next playthrough).

Yes, I did. Thanks both
