Do you have a favorite sci-fi movie or TV series? šŸ‘½

What about the new sci-fi comedy series by Seth MacFarlane? Have you seen it? Opinions?

Not seen it yet myself, but I get the impression that the consensus seems to be
"better new Star Trek than the actual new Star Trek".

To be honest, that seems a very easy accomplishment.

Oh, youĀ“ve seen Discovery already? Because I havenĀ“t. From all I hear it seems to be a great accomplishment in ā€œmissing the pointā€.

No, I intentionally haven’t because everything I have observed, starting from the trailers and the plot, shouts ā€œThis has nothing to do with Star Trekā€.

To me, the most faithful recent Star Trek production is an unofficial one, ā€œStar Trek Continuesā€.

A series rather than a film, but have you heard about Electric Dreams?

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.radiotimes.com/news/2017-09-29/electric-dreams-tv-episode-guide/amp/

It looks pretty good - each episode is based on one of his short stories, and they include actors like Bryan Cranston and Steve Buscemi. It was originally broadcast on UK terrestrial TV (I somehow missed it) but is available on Amazon Video (meaning the conversation will probably end here…)

I know this one…

Oh well that looks much better!

Heard of it, sounds interesting. I like anthology shows a lot!

Not here. :frowning:

And I know this:

Thought so, boo. Hopefully if it takes off it’ll get picked up. If it doesn’t I’ll pretend it’s rubbish and that you’re missing nothing.

I knew someone would bring that up!

Turns out that song is actually from the movie @DZ-Jay mentioned. Haven“t seen that yet, though.

It’s a nice romantic comedy from the 1980s, kind of sappy, and very ā€œ80s.ā€ I like it, though. I remember watching it many times when I was young, and enjoying it also as an adult.

-dZ.

It“s been announced that it“s coming to Amazon Prime Video january 12th! Yay!

Oh yay! :grinning: I’ll need something new to watch by then.

Really?!

January 3rd…

Just a few days ago, the web series ā€œStar Trek Continuesā€ has reached its end and it has been a great ending, perfectly linking the never completed original Star Trek series (the one with Kirk and Spock) with the events narrated in the first Star Trek movie.

To several Star Trek fans ā€œStar Trek Continuesā€ felt Star Trek even more than some official recent productions, also thanks to the high quality of its production values, which are unusual for a fan series.

There are 11 episodes, that can be seen on the official YouTube channel.

Pardon my ignorance, wasn“t that was the animated series was supposed to be?

In theory yes, in practice it’s a complex issue because the animated series has been ā€œdecanonizedā€.

I know what that is without even looking at the link… That’s the US release though – no news on the UK one yet

Oh that“s a shame! Well there is no official word for germany yet either. But on season 10 it wasn“t only picked up by the same network that aired the show back in the 90s but it came as fast as one day after the US airings, which is incredibly fast beause usally it can take between one half of a year and a full year because they also need time for the translation and dubbing.
