Yes, I have to admit I probably never would have finished the labyrinth without the hint book. 12 year old me, definitely not. But even now, maybe not. Thank Chuck for the internet, right?
It would never occur to me that there would be so many things to consider, unless the game told me outright. Is it obvious from the beginning that you have certain restrictions, like a limited amount of money?
Are you sure you want to know all this stuff in advance?
IMHO those guys here are posting too much spoilery content, you and @PiecesOfKate haven’t even started their game yet I guess!
Remember to pay me 100 € each day. Thank you.
One more hint and she will able to finish Zak McKracken on her first play!
I guess it depends. I don’t like spoilers but if there was no (or little) way of knowing some of those things I might end up frustrated. I think knowing I need to pay attention and write stuff down is probably enough for now, though.
Kate, Zak is a nightmare but it’s worth it. Just be patient, save often (but don’t overwrite) and keep a journal of what you do. It’s not impossible
Oh, about that: watch the intro of the game. Again, and again.
And again.
Time for @Calypso to split up this topic in the Lucasfilm/Adventure games category
Okay, thanks. I guess I’m used to Sierra games so it shouldn’t be too much of a shock
Who would have thought that, 30 years after its first release, there’d be somebody that would play my favourite game of all times?
I’m so glad!
I’d like to experience the same thing as its nice helping people when they’re stuck. But unless someone decides to play Space Quest or something…
I’ve never played it. Should I start it?
Do you like text parser games? Are you prepared to die in very ruthless, unfair circumstances? (Or to be given hints along the way to avoid that )
The gameplay itself is pretty basic, and probably looks quite dated now. But the humour is great, and the puzzles are fun.

Do you like text parser games?
The last one I remember was… Leisure Suit Larry 1. I liked it before the advent of Lucasfilm Games…
Nowadays I probably am not in the mood to play a text parser game, but… if the humor is great, I will give it a try.

Do you like text parser games?
I also haven’t played/completed the earlier Space Quest games yet. I started the first one and liked it but as always I hadn’t the time to finish it. I have to come back to those!
Sierra re-released the game with point’n’click interface. AFAIK the one on GOG only contains the VGA version.
Space Quest 1+2+3 (drink) on GOG
Space Quest 4+5+6 on GOG

She should’ve cancelled her holiday to play it.
she should have taken a week of holiday, just to play it!

I’ve not used Gog yet but I shall check it out
play the IBM version first (or even better yet, the C64 version - @someone surely will agree - after legally acquiring the GOG version of course.)

Can’t remember if I asked this before, but are there dead ends in it?
Only if you’re stupid (can’t remember getting stuck in a dead end in Zak - apart from a disk load error. Surely less dead ends than in MM)
no worries, we got you covered here. When in doubt, give a shout!

Also, do you want to write a flight plan of the plane connections and prices as you go or are you find just looking it up on the net? You should know those since that will help you save travel costs.
yeah, Zak is actually a flight simulator and educational accounting program

Is it obvious from the beginning that you have certain restrictions, like a limited amount of money?
Yes, it says so right on your creditcard.
Because that is how creditcards worked in 1997: you did not need a special reader to check your balance.
Then in 1998, they replaced that technology with the stupid plastic cards we still have today.
(I don’t know if you know/played Zak - it is a 1988 game that takes place in the relative futuristic year of 1997)
Oh, and even obtaining your credit card is a kind of copy protection. Similar to getting into the house in MM (but more difficult), this is in the game documentation under “things you can try do” - kinda like the TWP tutorial.
So make sure you also read the manual! (it was (also) written by @David, if you need another reason)
