They must even announce for which platforms the game will run.
Maybe they are finishing the porting for some platforms, assuming it will cover near every device (PC desktop, mobile, mac, linux, apple, android, xbox, PS…)
We know so little about the game, that it’s technically not possible to create a Wikipedia article about it yet (without key information, an article would fall in the WP:TOOSOON scenario).
It seems that the developers are not ready to disclose information about gameplay, platforms or release date/month. We can’t even exclude that this information will not be revealed in advance.
Maybe the developers have decided to adopt a “secrecy” approach to communication and marketing. It can be beneficial, if applied correctly, but it has also drawbacks.
I’d kind of prefer to go into the game without knowing anymore than we do already…
But if they do release more screenshots, etc. then I’ll of course look at them.
I agree about plot or gameplay or screenshots, but I would like to know at least a release month.
Also, I’ll play the game on PC, so I don’t mind about knowing on which other platforms the game will be released, but it’s important to consider that, currently, people who use different platforms don’t even know if they will be able to play the game.
We assume that it will be published on all the major platforms, but actually we don’t know and I’ve seen a lot of questions on Twitter about this topic.
we already know, it’s an Apple Watch exclusive
That’s the secret of Monkey Island!
What if it was all an elaborate April’s fool prank?
I would like that, really! I was thinking about this angle just today: Ron is waiting for the next April 1st to reveal that it was all a charming joke!
Ron has seen a light, which might be or might not be related to the ending of development.
I guess he finally figured out what the Secret of Monkey Island is…
Seeing how well-pleased Ron was with the sales of TWP on Switch, I guess that a Switch port of RtMI has been planned already.
I wonder if RtMI is going to be released on all platforms at the same time.
Back when they had released TWP, the ports for PS4 and Switch followed months later. And if there hadn’t been an exclusivity for Xbox One, the Xbox port also might have been released later.
Fortunalety, I use to play such a game on the PC, too.
In the newsletter for Rosewater, Francisco Gonzales says "since November/December are terrible months for indie releases, due to all the big AAA games coming out for the holidays, it means Rosewater will now be an early 2023 release. "
If this is common knowledge, does this mean RtMI won’t be released in november/december?
In my opinion they seem quite near to complete the development. If that is true, there is no need to wait for the next year.
I still think that they will release it in the summer. September, top.
Right. Also, Ron said he’s already in the final phase where he hates the game
Does someone remember from the podcasts at what point he started hating TWP?
I think it’s incredibly likely that the game will be released in the next month or so. Looking at everything Ron has tweeted out and reading between the lines a little bit, it looks like the game is pretty much done and they’re just fixing minor bugs up until release. Summer Game Fest is next weekend, and Devolver Digital have had a showcase there the past 2 years it’s been running. I think we’ll see the game in motion with a proper story trailer or gameplay demo, get our first look at Guybrush and a release date that lands somewhere in late June/mid July. That’s at least what I hope happens. Even if I’m wrong about the release window, I think it’s a near guarantee that we’ll have more content to discuss by next weekend, beyond the tired debate over the art style.
That might be the reason for the secrecy and the lack of trailer or game footage. Maybe they want to disclose everything at some event, like game fest.
I’m hoping for at least a new teaser video and I really would like to get some information about platforms and languages.
Said that, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Ron decided to keep most things secret until the release date, whenever it will be.
guybrush’s new look must be either very amazing or very dreadful, if they’re waiting so long to disclose it…
There’s been some discussion on this in other forums like Mojo and Discord, but one of the prevailing theories is that Guybrush will be significantly older than we’ve seen him for the majority of the game (not like an old man on the cusp of death, but middle aged, think Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame), mainly because of the speculation that the timeline may span more than just the gap between MI2 and Curse, but will in fact go past Tales aswell after a time skip from when we escape the carnival. This helps to explain 2 things: the lack of a Guybtush reveal, and Ron/Dave’s apprehension when discussing canon, why Murray is here, etc.
Of course, the other thing to consider is that Disney are just incredibly secretive when it comes to marketing most of their stuff, you get a trailer (one that usually hides important plot points with clever editing or cgi removal) mere weeks-2 months tops before release these days, especially with Star Wars and Marvel content. We may just be experiencing their influence over how the game is being shown to people and need not speculate further than that…but it’s fun
That’s the same theory that has been discussed here.
The first suspects arose when the developers talked about “move the characters forward” and the game having “a personal attachment to us”. The entire narrative in that part of the IGN article is about the passing of time and things being very different today.
Edit: well, no. After a check, it seems that actually the suspects arose well before the publication of that article.
I can also see them making the fact that other people made MI games after Ron a part of the game’s narrative: maybe Guybrush disappeared for decades after MI2 and Curse-Tales are the stories made up in his absence by other pirates (or Elaine under her pseydonym, remember the Phatt Island library?), using characters that already existed in universe but are slightly different (like Murray). Then the real Guybrush finally comes back, or “returns” to the world of Monkey Island to find a world very different to the one he left and forever changed by the stories made up about him when he was gone.
Idk I’m just spitballing, but I like sharing wild theories like that.
