The 2018 what are we playing thread

Yesterday I bought Goat Simulator.

Say goodbye to your sanity and hello to lots of fun. It“s even better when playing with friends.

I played with my daughter. She was quite happy with attacking people and licking cars.

You can also lick people and have them attached to your tongue and drag them with you and then climb up cranes with them or jump on trampolines.

Sounds like my day job…

Busy start of the year for me, hence no much progress :expressionless: , here’s my update!

January

Finished:

  • Thaumistry: In Charm’s Way - oh boy. I can’t recommend this one enough. This was my first text adventure. I’ll definitely play another, now I’m afraid I’ve been spoiled.

  • Thimbleweed Park - 2nd playthrough, on Android this time.

Also finished these short games (I’m really looking forward to The Librarian by @OctaviNavarro !)

What’s your opinion on this game?

(on-topic: I’m still playing The Darkside Detective, one episode left…)

That’s a text adventure?

Yes. You can play it for free here (you need Flash, but this ā€œmodernā€ version of the game has graphics - yeah!):

If you don’t have Flash, try this:

It’s a strange game, hard to define. I liked it. It’s very short, so easy to give it a try.

Yes! It’s frustrating as hell, but quite funny.

Besides the options that @Someone suggested. You can also try the original DOS version:

I really want to play this one as well.

It’s short but extremely funny. I really recommend to play it!

@ZakPhoenixMcKracken and all other players may want to read the official manual and the ā€œfeeliesā€:

I agree. Thaumistry was very very well done. You have been spoiled. If you liked this, I recommend checking out the IFDB for free interactive fiction. There’s some really good stuff there.

Here goes February.

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance: second game I backed on Kickstarter, out since last week, finally got it to run in Wine yesterday. Will likely last me the next half year.

It works on Wine and is playable? That’s neat! (they have been refunding Linux backers because they probably won’t make a native version)

I’ve followed development of the game (which was great) since I’ve seen the Kickstarter. I didn’t back because they didn’t promise a DRM-free version though.
Nice to see it will be on GOG soon!

But I’m really unhappy about the stunts they have pulled with physical backer rewards :frowning:
It’s a shame.

oh wow. Would have never expected that. Read that it’s quite buggy atm… is it ok for you?

It takes some workarounds to get it running, and so far works best with wine-staging 2.21. This post on their official forum got me up and running. Performance isn’t all that great, but I get higher framerates than with The Witcher 3. For me it’s playable that way.

Not far along yet, so cannot really say. I’ve encountered one or two minor issues, but nothing game-breaking so far. But as with all brand new games, it likely does not hurt to wait for the first couple patches.

I only ā€œlostā€ the paper manual, and that isn’t such a big deal to me. I guess higher-level backers had some more to put up with, and that can definitely be frustrating. My own experience with higher pledges is that the cost often exceeds the rewards in the end, especially if you value physical swag more than being immortalized in the credits or elsewhere in the game. I have yet to see one project that actually delivers what was promised originally (Unknown Realm is a hot contender, though  ).

The main problem is their communication and attitude regarding those issues.
They have just removed promised stuff.
They didn’t tell backers until shortly before release when everything was already set in stone and packages were on their way.
They didn’t even try to find replacements.
They didn’t apologise.
Their explanations were ridiculous. (e.g. they have sent all eligible backers T-Shirts in size L and told having different sizes would have been a logistical nightmare. I’ve backed hundreds of Kickstarter projects but this was a first!)

This may be true but that’s not my problem. They have managed to get enough funds to hire more than 100 people developing this game and now they don’t care about those backers who initially helped funding this project when no publisher wanted to do so?

Of course sometimes it is necessary to make some changes. But not in this way. I’m glad I didn’t back.

I have seen many delivering their stuff. The latest video game project being TWP.

Oh, I remember seeing Unknown Realm, I must have been too busy back then and missed the dead line, I still have it marked on Kickstarter!
