To jog someone’s memory: to cause them to remember something. This can be done on purpose, by a person, or indirectly, when a person sees an object or another person.
I take a tiny bit of comfort in the thought that perhaps, when we are gone and forgotten, someone in the future will find these conversations and enjoy reading them. Maybe even make it into a book (or whatever the high tech equivalent is). (Darn it, now they’re going to be sidetracked into finding out what a ‘book’ was.)
