Annoying is the right word. Here in Europe you are “trapped” in the World Cup if you use some kind of media (TV, radio, Internet …). I don’t understand why they all have to jump on the bandwagon…

The problem is, there is a Simpson episode where the WC Final is referenced. In fact, Homer is the referee of said match - you can tell that it’s already from that Simpson era where they said “fuck realistic plots, let’s put Homer in all kinds of situations” - but Brazil is playing.
Edit: according to Wikipedia, they’re playing against Germany, and Germany wins, so newspapers lost a good chance to make articles on “the Simpsons predicted the WC2014 winner”.
The best part of that old episode was when they showed the two commentator boxes, where Kent Brockman was totally bored in one and the (I guess mexican?) commentator was overly enthusiastic.
Good god, how am I sick of those!

That episode is a perfect parody of how Americans did (and still do) consider “soccer”. It’s wonderful. Two random countries passed of as “the best of the world”, people going to see the match only to wonder why nothing happens, a Mexican commentator that was so involved in centerfield play.
Then, a couple of seasons later, we have Lisa playing football with Ronaldo (the Brazilian one), Homer being the referee of the World Cup final… bah 
Hmmm… parody of THIS referee? 
Well, in that episode Homer refuses a bribe to fix the match in favor of the home team (Brazil) 
so… definitely the opposite, I’d say

Don´t they also flat out explain who Ronaldo is the moment he appears like they do with most celebrity cameos now? 
You know, I don’t remember in particular, but nowadays the flat out explain everything, even jokes. Should we open a thread where we both praise the Classic Simpsons and talk bad about the other seasons?

Yeah! I miss those days were celebrity cameos where by people like Dustin Hoffman not voicing themselves and being credited under a pseudonym.
They once had Elizabeth motherfucking Taylor only to have Maggie says “daddy” at the end of an episode!
Now the couchgag is a copy of a Ke$ha Video (no one probably remembers now already) just because it´s the hot thing right now…
