What are you seeing right now?

Yup. Sometimes Someone has to do it.

Thanks for the tip. But in this case I haven’t used the system for several weeks and I wanted Windows to update.

I still can’t believe why the whole update system is that slow and why Windows have to reboot again and again. On Linux I click on “install those 1230 pending updates” and within two minutes I have them installed…

I don’t know, I’m no expert in programming… I just use computers trying to not going mad… I remember Ron too complained, as a regular Mac user, with the Windows Ten upgrade policy. It is just non user-friendly. Possibly every other user (Mac, Linux, and former Windows edition) has the same complain.

Then maybe it’s that one. It is just a switch you can move from left to right.

I think that the Microsoft employees (including the Windows developers) don’t use Windows at all. Because if they would use their own system, Windows would have a better Update system.

The problem with this “trick” is, that you maybe suppress important updates. And it doesn’t prevent you from a restart: The updates are coming - but only later. The more you wait the more time the update system needs.

I have a similar issue with Apple pushing iOS11 each time. My phone memory is always almost full because it downloaded AGAIN this 1.5Gb update I do not want. I remove the download and two days later it starts all over again.

Remember the stone age of the Internet when you got to decide if/when to run updates? Now every app seemingly wants to update itself and give you more ads.

Not on Linux. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

You guys are making a good case for Linux, I’m seriously considering switching with my next computer.

I was talking more about iPhone apps though… “Oh, so you’ve been playing Bejeweled the same way for 10 years? How about an upgrade so you can have more in-app purchases?” :robot:

I don’t think the upgrade is the real problem here :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Don’t do it if you are an inexperienced computer user or if you would like to/have to work with audio/video stuff. My suggestion: Try a Live System resp. a Linux system on an USB stick first.

I’m using here several different OS, including a Mac and Windows - depending on the thing I have/would like to do.

Well young @tasse-tee in the old days we walked to school barefoot in the snow, uphill both ways and we liked it… but not in the way you kids “like” things on discourse.

Don’t believe all stories told by old grumpy men, young @tasse-tee! It wasn’t barfoot in the snow - it was a rainy storm!

I wonder if they still use 16MM film reels, Overheadprojectors and Photocopied work papers at my old school like they did in my days…I bet they do. But to be fair they probably upgraded to Windows 98 by now and don´t throw students out of the school who use the internet (instead of…you know, using a school network or any other sensible thing).
