Your song-of-the-day, based on your current mood

Today I feel nostalgic of the nineties. Maybe it’s because the meeting with David and Annie is approaching, but I can’t avoid remembering those golden years, the nineties.
And back then (in 1996), there was this song called “2030”, in which the singer tried to imagine how would have been the world, in the year 2030.
I transcript the lyrics, translated in English.
Enjoy.

English lyrics

The year is 2030, and I find that I’m almost sixty years old,
my goatee is gray and I am with no hair,
and Ambra is the first female president (uh uh)

The sky almost can not be seen anymore
You can go out only with the gas mask
on the bus there is the business class
and to enter the church (uh uh) must use the pass

We now only talk via the internet
and the parliament has its headquarters in Hammamet
there are shootings in the subway
there is the customs between the north and the south
but everyone gets dressed Dolce & Gabbana

And my mind flies back fast to before 2000
many years ago
when you were in time, not now, and besides there was hip hop, so…

So much nostalgia of the nineties
when the world was the ark and we were Noah
it was difficult but not impossible
we did not know where and how but we still knew why
there were those who wanted to, there were those who were together,
there were those who still loved despite the evil,
music was music, I remember, music
music was music, music

We are in the year 2030, they control television and radio
there is an audio censorship committee
they evaluate, they decide, what is yes, what is no,

they give us harmless music after testing
they give us Sanremo, Baudo still presents
with flowers and spectacular scenery
this year Bossi won, who came back to sing

The year is 2030
Italy has sold the colosseum to France
Venice sinks, 2030 and everyday a bomb explodes
2030 and we are airless
but there is plenty of hate
first they divided north and south, then city and city,
and think,
now everyone is closed in his own room
the intolerance dance, there is no hope, (oh)

So much nostalgia of the nineties
when the world was the ark and we were Noah
it was difficult but not impossible
we did not know where and how but we still knew why
there were those who wanted to, there were those who were together,
there were those who still loved despite the evil,
music was music, I remember, music
music was music, music

This is the year 2030, here those who think are in the minority
but it does not matter, you do not need anymore (uh uh)

2030 indifference is a virtue
cybernauts do a TV show
the liberators beat up bums in the name of Jesus (uh uh)
the national anthem sounds like a funeral march
virtual sex is healthier because there is one
virus that is taken by sweat, and you die in ninety hours,
the HIV in comparison looks like a cold
it’s an escaped war experiment and the result is that nobody makes love anymore

and I am outlawed as I speak of this
because I think about when we could even stop it
now it’s too late for a pirate poet, who hopes in memories and has

So much nostalgia of the nineties
when the world was the ark and we were Noah
it was difficult but not impossible
we did not know where and how but we still knew why
there were those who wanted to, there were those who were together,
there were those who still loved despite the evil,
music was music, I remember, music
music was music, music

So much nostalgia of the nineties
when the world was the ark and we were Noah
it was difficult but not impossible
we did not know where and how but we still knew why
there were those who wanted to, there were those who were together,
there were those who still loved despite the evil,
music was music, I remember, music
music was music, music

I really liked 2030 when I was a kid, now that I’m older I’m pretty scared. I mean, not only because 2030 (the year) is closer to today than 2030 (the song), but also because some of the “prophecies” completely changed in meaning.

For example, Ambra as president was meant to be laughable, but it’s way better than what we have now.

in 12 years, she will enter in politics… just wait…

Anyway, the part in which they say:
“[…] first they divided north and south, then city and city,
and think, now everyone is closed in his own room, the intolerance dance”

…is nowadays almost real :frowning:

I remember that at the time the whole “north/south” secession was pretty strong.

Now Italy’s all united against a new enemy: foreigners :stuck_out_tongue:

And those pesky austrians trying to take south tyrol from you without asking first.

Back in the end of the 80s, there was a horizontal scrolling shoot’em up game which had a fantastic intro music. When I loaded that game, on my Amiga 500, I stood still, listening to the intro music.

Best listened with hearphones, since it’s a real 2-channels split.

R-Type, composed by Chris Hülsbeck.

I liked the C64 version more. The orchestral version of the Amiga intro isn’t bad too:

Never heard before. I’m listening to it now, it’s totally different from the Amiga one.

Indeed. I don’t know why they haven’t converted the Amiga intro music to the C64 (or vice versa). But most of the other Rainbow Arts games used different tunes on the Amiga and the C64. One example is the Turrican series where the C64 music is completely different.

To me, the Turrican tune is ONLY the one of the Amiga Version:

Excellent!

Yes, IMHO the Turrican Amiga music is definitely better than the C64 version.

Yeah, but that C64 intro speech is still a classic!

Oh, yes! Some in-game tunes are also very good.

Which Turrican game was it the basically lifted tunes from the Transformers movie? Was it the second one?

It was the intro of the first game:

/edit: btw: On the “Turrican Soundtrack Anthology Vol. 1” is a Vince DiCola - Transformers Medley 2013
