In celebration of the 1000th post! :trumpet: bup-bup-baaaaaa!

Thanks for making this such an interesting thread, guys - it’s taken off way more than I ever could’ve anticipated :grinning: keep 'em coming!

DREAMS RULE! :sleeping_bed: :cloud: :night_with_stars:

Here’s one of my favourite pieces of dream artwork - The Persistence of Dreams by Dali.

Gosh, that reminds me of that weird intermezzo in Thunderbirds Are Go.

If I had a record player I could play my mom’s Cliff Richard records. :stuck_out_tongue:

Am I the only one to think this was from a kind of piano game, where you need to hit the correct notes as they fall down?

I’ve been listening to more of the sleep audiobook. One of the bits I really liked is describing dreams as a ‘consoling neurochemical bath’. That would make a really good essay title: ‘A dream is a consoling neurochemical bath. Discuss.’

I’ve just started a section about sleep stimulation. During one study, in the sleep laboratory researchers hung a bed from wires attached to the ceiling (‘bear with me’, says the author). In half the test group, they gently rocked the bed side to side as the sleeper went into REM sleep. In the other half, they kept it static (the control group). They observed that the rocking half experienced deeper sleep, with more sleep spindles (brain activity thought to be important in memory). This supports the idea of rocking babies to sleep.

I just thought that was interesting. I’m also enjoying the thought of someone in a really ornate bed (think Bedknobs and Broomsticks) swinging from the ceiling

I had this dream.

I am in a great car parking, like those of commercial centers. It’s after sunset. I have a little bit of fear, because it seems there’s no one, but a few empty cars.
The fear brings me to go away from there. I don’t search for my car, for my way, I just go away from there.
I walk away from the parking area, away from the road. I walk on the terrain, on the grass, there’s a little hill, many trees. I go there, there’s a house with lights, a little stair outside. I go there to enter, but inside it looks like a weird place, and there’s someone like a psychopath or a killer. He sees me and follows me.
Then I go away to a vast underground parking. I try to run away, to close the doors behind me, the fear is always bigger at any step I make. In the end I’m like in trap with no escape.

I think this is a great lesson for a dream. It’s like something inside me is telling me: don’t let the fear address your choices, your way. If you listen to that, you can only make things go worse, from a bad position, to an even worse one.
Also, like it had an animal instict, the world feels your fear, and hunts for the fearful ones.

Having collected quite a lot of dreams now, I’m finding this is quite a common theme - being chased or followed by something you fear, whether that’s a big robot, scary human or animal, or just a feeling.

I think you’ve interpreted it pretty well - it’s certainly a good moral, perhaps hinting that you should face your fear instead of running from it.

Mine often manifests itself as an imminent death situation. I’m being shot, or being captured by someone (often during a war of some kind) and I get a really intense feeling of inevitability - that I’m about to die and there is nothing I can do about it. A real ‘this is it’ feeling. Then I always wake up, breathing hard and in a sweat.

I think mine might be the feeling that I’m tumbling into something with no control, and I can’t stop it. Or that my life is racing forward, which is a waking feeling I get a lot.

I had one last night where I got chased by co-workers and the CEO around a harbour, because they wanted to fire me for speaking my mind.
But they couldn’t catch me. Hah! (losers)

  1. I dreamt of Jessica Chastain. But that´s nothing special because I always do and who doesn´t?

  2. I dreamt I hung with Maynard James Keenan and we talked about wine all the time because I was too afraid to ask him how the new Tool album was progressing.
